Free to Fashion Project – Book Design. A collection of artworks and writings created by students from Story Factory’s Free to Fashion program.
I had the pleasure of working with Story Factory and artist Chatcha on the Free to Fashion project, an inspiring initiative that empowers young women to explore the intersection of identity and fashion. This project involved students from Birrong Girls High School and Bossley Park High School, who participated in a series of creative workshops that encouraged them to express their thoughts and ideas about what fashion means to them. Through writing, drawing, and storytelling, these young women crafted their own narratives, and their unique perspectives became the foundation for a beautiful collection of art and stories.
My role in this project was to design the book that showcases the students’ work. The book brings together their thoughtful stories and artworks, alongside Chatcha’s unique portraits of the students. The garments were produced by The Social Outfit, a fashion label that champions creativity and community, with each piece reflecting the vibrant ideas and voices of the young women involved.
The culmination of this creative journey was proudly displayed at the Carriageworks on Gadigal Land as part of The Social Outfit’s 10th birthday celebration. It was an incredible experience to see the students’ work celebrated in such a meaningful way, and I’m honoured to have contributed to a project that highlights both individuality and collective creativity.
