Be Someone ::: Story Factory

I had the pleasure of working with Story Factory on Be Someone—a publication that celebrates creativity, leadership and community through the voices of young people in Western Sydney.

In this inspiring project, 15 students from Chifley College Shalvey Campus designed and led their own creative writing workshops for Year 6 students at Noumea Public and Shalvey Public. The goal: to support younger students in building their literacy skills and confidence as they prepare for high school.

From imagining their ultimate superheroes and supervillains to dreaming up personal dream catchers, the stories in this book are filled with imagination, heart, and a strong sense of purpose.

My role was to design and illustrate the book in a way that reflected the energy and creativity of the students involved. The result is a vibrant mix of writing, artwork and reflections that captures the spirit of mentorship and the power of young people supporting one another.

The book was designed in an Ace Double format—two collections back-to-back, each with its own cover. In the centre, the writing of the high school student mentors is featured, alongside photos of the students and their classes, bringing both sides of the mentorship journey together in one cohesive design.

It was a joy to be part of a project that puts student voices front and centre.
