I designed and illustrated Building Blocks for Movement, a resource for NSW Health that supports the development of fundamental movement skills (FMS) in children – including running, jumping, hopping, throwing, catching, kicking, striking, balancing and dodging.
The publication is a spiral-bound guide for teachers and community use, focused on building confidence, practising key skills and encouraging enjoyment of movement rather than perfection. Each activity is adaptable, allowing children to progress at their own pace, while clearly identifying key skill elements to support observation and improvement.
My role involved illustrating all movement sequences to demonstrate correct technique, as well as developing a set of student characters used throughout the resource. These characters were designed to reflect diverse backgrounds and balanced gender representation, creating an inclusive and relatable visual language.
The design was required to align strictly with NSW Government brand guidelines across colour, typography and accessibility, while remaining engaging and easy to navigate for a broad audience.

I illustrated each movement within every skill, clearly demonstrating correct technique to support understanding, accuracy, and confident skill development.

A cohesive visual system was extended across supporting materials, including an A5 Movement Foundations passport for tracking progress and an A4 skill log for at-home use, creating a consistent and practical suite of resources.
